Prevention of Animal Cruelty-Bear Counting in Canada- Day Twenty of My Daily Blog. This is truly one of the most delightful videos I've ever seen!

It's informative, very funny, endearing....you'll laugh, go awwwwwwww and walk away wanting a couple of these cubs for yourself. There are Canadian references that I'm sure our Canadian ActiveRainers will understand, but I couldn't.

My Mom sent this to me awhile ago: "This man is funny...the bear adventure alone is worthy of a comedy album. ENJOY!!!" His name is Rick Mercer , who is a teacher (and I think a stand-up comic) and he visited Algonquin Park

Bear Counting in Canada

This is wonderful and the audio is hilarious! Enjoy.

This clip is great for animal lovers and young children -- Momma Bear and her three very young cubs in the wild of northern Ontario, Canada. Humane wildlife experts taking a winter bear census right in the hibernation dens.

You'll love this, besides the cute precious 6 week old baby bears (eyes still closed) the guy (Rick Mercer) has some of the funniest lines. This is a special video of retagging a mommy bear.

Lloyd, I had no idea who Rick Mercer was, but he's got a bunch of other videos and he's such a hoot--I think he does some political satire, both in Canada and here where he was interviewing "Joe Averages" here in the states trying to fool them about coming to see some igloo that looked like the White House, only in Canada (or SOMETHING...anyway, he is very funny and QUICK).

Here's what one of my Canadian friends here on the rain said about Rick Mercer:

RM has a show on TV here! He's quite a comic genius and made his name on a comic skit show the Canadian Air Farce and also a show, the Rick Mercer Report, pranking Americans by asking them questions about Canada that they either couldn't answer or the answers could have been answered by any 5 year old, and Canadians found hilarious. Now he just goes and has fun and makes people laugh. He has one that he and paraplegic, Rick Hansen (wheels in motion) fundraiser go bungee jumping. It was awesome!

Wow Gayle, messing with bear cubs in wintertime. These guys got some kahunas!!! And there was a point to this? Seems like disturbing someone's sleep to me. Now if Mama bear came out and got them, THAT would have been some interesting video. Winter bear census. How useless.

Mona--you're right, bear cubs in your jacket, one thing...bear cubs in your home--quite ANOTHER.

Gary--I think it is useful to have tracking, monitoring so that we know about population, habits, etc. of creatures because it helps us help them, sometimes...kinda like the CENSUS SURVEY

OK with the census, but if I were a bear I still would prefer to get my sleep during hibernation. I know many species like the whales they do track their movements (like the whales) with tracking devices.

Gary, as it was mentioned in this video, the moms who have new cubs are awake (so that they can nurse), which I found interesting and it disspelled the myth of all bears hibernating.
