That looks exactly how a tile job would look if I was doing it!
Hire professional people. It's just that simple!
Well at least they have a sense of humor, those "repaired" lines are definitely abstract but maybe that was the look they were trying for
When I worked in the flooring industry we sold tile and materials for bathroom remodels. My installer once told me that the best part of his job was demolition. I can see how he would have enjoyed this one! :)
Debbie, That reminded of the frat house low budget repairs some of my college companions used to make.
Debbie, I think that person attended the same DIY class I did on bathroom tile.
Whew -- that is pretty awful although I probably could have had it looking even worse! Hopefully when they were putting in an Offer to Purchase they took into consideration what it might cost to redo. Getting that plumbing moved from were it is (what was someone thinking!) won't be cheap either. Oh boy, and the kitchen has issues as well.
Sue of Robin and Sue
Tom - Glad you found it entertaining, too. This house is classic. More & more issues keep popping up each day.
Craig - LOL, Yes, it's best to hire a professional.
Ginny - I know, I couldn't believe it either. My niece found it very entertaining as well.
Diane - LOL, this is the main and only bathroom on the first floor. Looks like previous owner just wanted a cheap fix.
Barbara - I have no idea.
Jim - Yes, he would have. I can't wait to do the before/after on this one.
Peter - LOL, it's prob. not too different.
Bliz - Yes, this is pretty bad. I did see another one somewhat similar in Larchmont. That one might have been a tad worse as it looked similar, but was tile on top of tile...but not even the entire wall.
Bob - Probably.
Sue - Yes, I think they got a good deal on this house given all the repair work. But I don't think they factored this into the loan. they prob. should have done 203K loan.
Debbie,
This is just awful!
Thank you for sharing this post with us!
Have a good day!
OMgosh, who would do that and then leave it that way. Thanks for the laugh Debbie.
Ginger - I don't know. It's crazy. Glad you got a good laugh out of it, too.
WOW. I mean, what else can you say? HORRIBLE!!!
I assume this was the previous homeowner that did that job, and this is what the current homeowner inherited?
And the real kicker is the plumbing out of the side wall. WOW!! Never seen that before!
This is truly dreadful. But a good laugh. Glad you were there to save the day!
Debbie, very funny and to think they were probably proud of themselves. LOL
C'mon, a little chewing gum in those grout voids at the top and it is as good as new.
Jeremy - Yes, "wow"...that's what I kept saying. Yes, it was the previous homeowner; my customer had just moved in the day before. I can't for the life of me figure out why the plumbing isn't on the other wall.
Marcie - Yes, it is a good laugh
Ellen - LOL, you're probably right.
Jay - ROFL, yes, that might just do the trick.
Debbie.. LOL. I think maybe a 5 year old in the house did it. Maybe they should take lessons first, next time.
Christine - I'm sure you have. I have seen many bad tile jobs...but I had my digital for this one and thankfully snapped a picture.
Valerie - LOL, you may be right.
Valerie - I know, it's so awful that you have to laugh. The caulk is disgusting. I think it was recaulked MANY times...which may mean there's another underlying issue.
Debbie, you and Reuben could combine your caulk stories and start a blog! :)
Jeremy - Yes, I know, I remember reading his post. But, I don't know if this caulk can be removed and/or what's behind it - probably some bigger issue. As I'm thinking abt this more, there's prob. mold somewhere in these walls.
Debbie - I have seen some bad tile jobs in my life, but I am certain your photos illustrate the worst I've seen.
I had one homeowners, who actually did a pretty good job of setting tiles, but when he went to grout it, he spunged it on, and left it while he rested. . .He was in his 70s, and it was a hot day in the 100s, without air-conditioning. The grout set up so fast, and he was unable to adequately clean the tiles afterward. Fortunately, someone came in and helped him apply muratic acid and clean them a bit. Still the job was far from perfect.
It's a good thing those customers have a good sense of humor - but I guess they knew what they were getting into when they bought the house.
Hope you post the "after" pictures once this is remodeled.
Marte - Yes, glad they did too and yes, they knew what they were getting into...although I don't think they realized how much everything would cost. it will be a while before I have after pictures since they need to work on kitchen first.
Whatcher problem here? Smooth, flat, shiny. That's how tile is supposed to be. You women want everything straight and sound. I don't get it.
There is some style there, if you look at it
upside down
from a distance
with your thumb in front of one eye...
Jay -LOL, Yes, I guess when you look at it that way, it's not so bad. Maybe it's okay in the dark, too.
Now THAT is a custom bathroom. I can see the reason for laughter.
Thanks for the pictures this morning.
