World wide eyes will be on the Royal Wedding later today. I'll maybe tune in for a brief moment.
However a lot of "eyes" from Tucson will be glued to the TV coverage of the launch of the Shuttle Endeavor, as the Commander of the shuttle is Mark Kelly, husband of our beloved Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. Gabby's doctors cleared her to go to the launch to see her husband off. She was well enough to travel! That's a BIG Deal for a lot of us here in Tucson, AZ.
We caught a fleeting glimpse of her yesterday walking up the stairs, UNDER HER OWN POWER, to the door to the plane from Houston to take her to Florida.
That alone was enough to bring tears to a lot of eyes. Me for one.
For those who may have missed it, Gabby was shot in the head point blank, on January 8th, by a, well, fill in your own adjective fitting of the shooter. The nut bag did manage to kill 6 people, including a absolutely precious little girl, and he wounded 13 people, including Congresswoman Giffords.
So while most eyes are on the Royal wedding, we here in Tucson are so thrilled to have her with us, it's OUR Royal moment.
