Spring is here...the track is open! It's a weekend I've been waiting for for six months, the first race weekend at Miller Motorsports Park. Despite what the weatherman (and my eyes) tell me, spring arrives tomorrow. The first semi door will open, the first race car will appear. I don't even care if it sees its shadow or not!

The Nascar K&N series has been coming to Tooele County to race for 5 of the 6 years MMP has been around. While you won't hear the names of drivers you'll see at Daytona or Talledega, you are going to see some folks that have a legitimate chance to be in the "Big time" in the near future. The cars themselves are similar to those used in the Nascar Nationwide series, meaning they are high powered, modified versions of the cars you can see down at the Quality Automotive showrooms. At 500+ horsepower, they are loud, fast and a blast to watch. This year they will be racing on the "East" course, only 2.2 miles around, compared to the normal 4 mile course.

In addition, my favorite type of racing is on tap this weekend. Sports car racing is my passion, and two of my favorite series will be here this weekend. The SCCA Pirelli World Challenge is one of the most competitive races you'll ever see. With Dodge Vipers, Chevy Corvettes, Porsche 911s and BMW M3's among other things, you'll really enjoy watching them beating and banging on each other. I'm also really excited to see the new Cadillac CTS-VR racers, as much for their speed as for the fact that they are a signal that GM is back, as this is a factory backed race team.

There are several other series competing this weekend. The one I'll watch the closest is IMSA GT Cup series. As a hard core Porsche junkie, there's just something about watching 40 of these cars side by side through all the corners and elevation changes MMP has to offer. When these 911's are on the gas, you can hear them all the way to Stansbury Park!

This weekend, MMP is hosting a major go-carting event as well. These carts have very little in common with ones you ride at the State Fair. Good for over 70 mph, these things are a blast, especially when you consider the drivers range from 6 to 70 years old! MMP's cart facility is truly world class.

As much as my wife enjoys (tolerates my love of...) racing, I think she's more excited about the new zipline MMP has installed for this year. At well over 90 ft tall, it has already become the tallest structure in Tooele County, and the ride down should be amazing. You'll have to take her word for it, as I'm not going anywhere near it!

Yes, although we received snow in the last 24 hrs, with more forecast for this weekend, Spring is here...for me, in Tooele County!
