Harnessing the Power of ActiveRain...
I rarely write "Technical Posts" because they can be lengthy and time consuming. Most of the time, technical stuff goes over most people's heads, but because I like my subscribers and was asked "to share the wealth" here goes...
Those of us who patron ActiveRain are all too familiar with its ability to generate Google juice and provide "OOMPH" to our businesses. There are many that post here as well on our outside blogs in order to get a leg-up on competition and vie for one of those 10 coveted spots on the first page of Google. Cutting to the chase, deep linking from a fountain of GO-GO-Juice back to our sites is a way to increase SEO to our sites. For those technically inclined, I devised an embed link that will link AR to photos on your website. Please Note: This is not for everyone. Some basic html knowledge is essential.
The purpose and intent of this post will be geared towards those who have a basic understanding of html and how html works. The embed code I use is quite simple but effective:
I have had to insert the code as a photo because the frame phrase kept inserting a blank frame and blocked out the code.
I will explain: The first snippet of code center justifies your frame. Left, left justifies; Right, right justifies.
The
height="400" frameborder="0" width="600"> == This is critical as it produces the height and width of your frame. This size works well with your outside blog too. Please Note: All browsers are not compatible as they interpret code differently. Some earlier experiments produced varying results between Safari, Bing, Chrome, IE8 and FireFox. To the best of my knowledge, this size works well on most browsers. REMEMBER: Your picture has to be sized accordingly!!! TIP!!! Have your embed code saved in a text doc and edit accordingly so you can copy/paste in later steps...
INSERTING THE CODE...
1 . Write your post in WYSIWYG mode as you normally would. Click the ActiveRain Channels, Groups that you normally would.
2. Make comments as to where you want your picture inserted. i.e. <<<<<< Insert Picture 1 here >>>> Makes it easier to find in the code.
3. Save as DRAFT.
4. Click "Edit" and change to HTML.
5. Look for the <<<<<<< Insert Picture Here >>>>>>> in your line of code. See photo below.
6. Copy the encoded text from your text doc and paste here.
7. You may want to leave it in "Draft" mode and hit submit just to see how it will look.
8. If all looks well, re-open by clicking on "Edit", change to members or public and click "Submit".
9. DO NOT change back to WYSIWYG mode. AR will strip the embed code and you will have to start over.
I have made some links back to others WordPress blogs to let you see how this works. My special thanks to Cindy Jones. Below is a back links to a picture posted to their outside blogs. I tried to use a submission by Mike Jaquish but since it linked back to a Flicker account, it produced a not able to direct link error but did provide a source link.
Finally, remember the KISS rule. Generally, one back link to your site is sufficient. The bulk of this post was done in the "Conventional method" with only 1 back link and that was to Cindy's site to let you know that the code works. If anyone more adept at html has a better mouse trap, share the wealth and let us know…
