My husband does most of the grocery shopping in our family, even though it's my favorite type of shopping. He was at the local AJ's yesterday because they were having their "meat" sale and saw a beautiful slab of baby back ribs. He asked the butcher how he cooks them.
Well...............I'm telling you, this is the busy person's recipe - it was AWESOME. Usually ribs were ONLY made on the weekends when I had hours and hours to cook and baste and char and mop. This is for the working person.
Cut the slab of ribs in 1/2 or whatever works for your crockpot/slowcooker.
Salt and pepper on both sides and rub in a little.
Put them in the crockpot/slow cooker on low for 6-8 hours. If you're away longer, no worries.
When you get home from work, remove from the crockpot. Heat up the grill and brown on each side for about 5-10 minutes. Use your barbecue sauce of choice only AFTER they've browned and only on indirect heat.
The grilling part is less than 1/2 hour and perfect for a hectic day.
I like to make my own barbecue sauce, but I like the Jack Daniels for a smoky flavor or Sweet Baby Ray's for a sweeter sauce - both used ONLY when I don't have time to make my own.
These were falling off the bone and so tender, I couldn't believe it. Oh, if you have time, you can firm these up a little by putting them in the fridge after removing them from the crockpot and before putting on the grill. I'm going to use this for my next party the day ahead of time, wrap in tin foil and refridgerate for 24 hours, but I'm telling you, they were delicious.
