Some Days You Just Wish Never Happened, But Having My Dog Lucy Made it all Okay

By
Home Stager with Elite Staging and Redesign, LLC

Yesterday I had an early staging job and had given the seller a list of DYI  - packing, cleaning up ect. during our initial consultation. When I arrived at 8:00 am, she'd just gotten out of bed and hadn't done anything on the list. Keep in mind, she's paying me to stage - not clean up her home. Regardless, I jumped right in and together we did get a lot done, but I had to leave abruptly when out of nowhere I got one of those pounding migraines that renders you barely able to drive, let alone log on to Active Rain - lol.

By the time I got home, I couldn't keep down any medication and things went from bad to worse. My husband came home to find me lying in the bed, unable to lift my head, let alone walk and get myself to the doctor's, my head was pounding so badly.  This has happened before and he carried me to the car and took me to a close by Emergency Clinic for a shot of Compazine to stop the vomiting because I couldn't keep down any other migraine medication.

Now for the sweet part of this story: from the minute I walked into my home, my dog Lucy never left my side and hovered over me like a worried mom. This in only one of the many reasons I love her so much - she is my best friend and I'm so lucky to have her!

Lucy is fully grown now, but these are some of my favorite puppy pictures:

Joan- only people who have experienced migraines know how debilitating they are. Love the story of your dog sleeping between the two bedrooms - looking out for everyone!

Greg - I can't even begin to comprehend that some pet owner treat their animals badly in any way! Lucy is like my child and she lives the best life - we all make sure of that in my family!

Craig  - thanks, and I do feel better! Lucy slept right next to me all night just to make sure - she even followed me to the bathroom - isn't that sweet?!

Ellie - She's so spoiled that she won't even eat the "doggy" ice-cream they sell - only the best for Lucy!

Thanks Debbie and animals are far more perceptive than humans and more loyal IMO!

Roy- I can always count on Lucy for everything, especially when I'm not feeling well!

Anita- only people who have suffered from them know how debilitate they are. Now that I'm feeling better, I'm showering Lucy with love and attention and she's having steak for dinner!

Joanna - Thank you for leaving such a sweet comment and I am feeling much better today! Now it's my turn to shower Lucy with love and attention!

Rob- Once she got a hold of it - it became hers! Now she know better and only goes after Kleenex and paper towels!

Roger- Amazing how much our dogs comfort us when we need it and Lucy is exceptional!

Elizabeth - Thank you and I took one look at Lucy at our local shelter and signed the papers and we never looked back! She is one of the greatest joys in my life!

Anne- Stress is usually the cause of my migraines and they come on so fast it's hard to keep medication down. Lucy did make things better though!

Tammy - Thank you and I couldn't agree more!

Laura - hahaha - if you knew Lucy you'd know who crazy that question is - she'd probably take your hand off......just like me - lol!

Joan - My husband reacted immediately and went back out to get me medication, saltines and tea - he is the best and I am one lucky lady!

Thank you Jerry and I'm truly sorry for your wife because they are horrible! Luckily I have Lucy and a wonderful husband!

Glen - Yes they do and it's amazing how much they care - I just love my Lucy!

Kristine - A homeowner who doesn't do their homework is enough to give anyone a headache - argh!!!  I also suffer from migraines and get the exact same symptoms as you.  People who don't suffer from them really have no idea how debilitating they can be.  Something as silly as a change in the weather, or not enough sleep or stress can trigger them.

Lucy is adorable.  What a sweetie to stick by your side, sensing you needed her.

Janice - Sorry to hear your son get them too - they are awful! Maybe he needs a puppy to nurse him thought it -lol!

Sally - I feel for you - they are incredibility debilitating and only people who've suffered with them understand. Lucy is a very special dog and always has my back - she even sense when I'm sad and kisses more than usual which is a lot - lol!

Kristine I hope your migraine is gone, although I do know they can stay for as long s 3 days.  My 17 year old GD gets them (she lives with us) and they are horrid for her.  Your dog Lucy, is so sweet, labs are the best ever.  We had Dory and got her from the guide dogs, she was the best ever.  Now we have Henry, a golden and he is also very sweet.  They do take care of you and always seem to know when you are in need.  Take care and thank you for sharing.

I too used to suffer from migraines (until I quit the Corporate job) and now Excedrin usually takes care of the headaches...a trip to the ER is a testimony to how bad they can be...glad you are better and your Lucy is adorable!

Mary - It pretty much went on until well into the evening - about 12 hours of pure hell. Thanks for asking and I'm feeling much better! Lucy has always been the same way - she knows if I'm physically or emotionally in pain and I get a lot of extra love and she hovers over me - it's so sweet and makes me lover her all the more!

Ellen - I couldn't eat yesterday - trust me I'm fine, and have only eaten very healthy today. Our pact is really working and I think it so great we made oursevles accountable to each other - how can I let YOU down?!

Cindy - Thank you - I thinks she's pretty cute too. More often than not, I end up at the ER or Dr.'s office because they come on so fast and strong the nausea keeps me from getting getting any medicine down and only a shot  brings any relief. Luckily that don't occur too often.

Thanks Kathy - I swear the seller did! I couldn't believe it when I showed up after giving her 3 days to pack stuff away and even left yellow stickies on everything and there they all were when I walked in the door. I thought - do you really want to pay me to pack away books and box things at what I charge for an hour of staging or to stage your home?! Not the first time - won't be the last, I sure - lol!

Kristine- I'm glad you're better and how lucky you are to have Lucy.  Dogs are truly man and woman's best friends.  Hope the rest of your weekend goes much better.  I've not had a migraine headache but have friends who have them and I know they can be debilitating. Treat yourself to an "I love me" day tomorrow!

Kristine--There is nothing like the loyalty of a dog.  I lost my little Wiley in December----he once stayed in be with me for three straight days when I had a very bad case of the flu.  One of my pugs has taken over his role.  Migraines run in my family---from my mom to me, to my kids.  Mine tapered off when I hit my thirties and were never as bad as what you are describing. Lucy is a sweetheart and very photogenic!

Kristine, I'm sorry I missed this post. I would have liked to have been praying for you as you needed it. Knowing the problem I will pray that it doesn't reoccur again. Even better then Lucky you have a husband that did more then worry he got the job done by getting you the medical attention you needed. (we don't need to see pictures of him as a pup however)

Kristine, Lucy is adorable. I have a cat and he is always next to me when I don't feel well. I am sorry for you that you have those migraines and I don't want to be rude but I you are pretty careless not having any pain relieve with you. I have an Advil in every purse and in all my cars. I hope that all those migraines do not hit you that often.

Pat - I'm so sorry about Wiley - I'm all too familiar with losing a dog you love like a child - heartbreaking. Aren't dogs amazing - they comfort us when we are sick or emotionally upset. I've had migraines for years and don't get them often, but when I do, I always have to go to the ER - I couldn't even dial the phone to call my husband to tell him how sick I was - now that's bad!

You are so sweet Bob and when I get them - it's as bad as they get. My husband is wonderful and did everything humanly possible to get me better and never left my side until I could get up and function again. Not to mention Lucy was there until he took over - I'm a lucky girl!

Anna - I've had cats that have done the same thing to - they are just like dogs when you're sick! They just know and stay by and watch over you - so sweet! Great advice and after Friday - I'm not leaving home without my migraine medication - ever. I only get one about every two years, but I always end up in the hospital because without a shot of compizine, I can't keep anything down. It's like having the a splitting headache and food poisoning at the same time - you just want to die!
