It was warm and breezy in the Greater Sacramento Region today. I decided to drive over to Hagan Community Park in Rancho Cordova, to check out the Annual Kids Day event! The festival hosted approximately 2,000 kids and adults to participate in free kid activities. The event was bigger this year than ever before.
The activities included FREE Sacramento Valley Live Steamers train rides, face painting, music, a raffle for bicycles, petting zoo, hayrides, live stage entertainment - and a variety of other games, activities and GREAT food!
Dozens of service organizations were on hand to provide demonstrations and information to assist children and family in their endeavor to live happy and healthy.
It was a FUN packed event and day!
Rancho Cordova's Hagan Community Park consists of 75 acres, with a Community Center, 8 tennis courts, 3 swimming pools, 3 baseball fields, 3 soccer fields, basketball court, petting zoo, play grounds, tot lots, and fitness court.
In addition there is a scale model steam railroad (Sacramento Valley Live Steamers). The park abuts the American River Bike Trail and foot access to the beautiful American River.
Myrl--this looks like a fun event. If you were closer I would have met you with my grandsons. Love the big duck with glasses. Have a good weekend. Enjoy that warm weather.
Myrl...fess up. You drove over because you are a kid at heart. Me too, I refuse to grow up.
Sounds like a great time! So wonderful that your community puts on such wonderful events for families to enjoy together!
Myrl - It is great to see so many spring time activities for children being promoted here in the rain ..... after all kids are people too ..... Make it a Great May!
Mary - It always is a fun event. Great food, great energy! It was a little breezier than I like weather wise, but the temperature was nice.
Richard - You know me too well. The fact that I went by myself without any grandkids, ought to give you a clue:-)
Rhonda - Rancho Cordova, Fair Oaks, Folsom and a number of Greater Sacramento communities are really active in promoting family friendly activities. There's always something going on somewhere nearby.
Kathy - Yep, kids are people too. . .And they often don't let us forget it. . .LOL
Myrl, It looks and sounds like it was a blast. It's also nice to find activities like this that don't break the budget.
Myrl, that is a great looking activity! I love the old fire engines! They're so cool.
What fun! I'm glad you got to go. We had a family fun day here and I had to miss it.
Myrl - Those types of events are fun for the whole family but I'm surprised to hear you say there was great food. Too often fried foods take center stage with the usual salt, sugar and fat.
Bob - I'm fond of that particular fire engine. There was no charge, other than a nominal fee for food. It was one of those events where the whole family could participate, have a great day, and as you say, not break the budget.
Tony and Darcy - It has been around the community for a lot of years
Ann - There is so much going on in the way of events here in the Greater Sacramento area this month, that it's hard trying to take it ALL in.
John - There were health industry providers, and education groups vital to healthy living and learning for children at the event. There is a serious issue with obesity in the country. There is no doubt about that. I increasingly see evidence of it when I'm out and about. And it seems to be getting worse each year. I blame a lot of it on processed food, lack of exercise, and corn syrup. There are other factors too. I worry about our children. If we don't get this issue under control, they are going to be living shorter lives.
Hi Myrl, your last comment touches on what I first thought when I was reading your post. This event sounds like a great opportunity to kids outside and moving about. The Park seems to have a great variety of things to get kids involved in sports or bicycling...I'm glad Michelle Obama has taken on physical fitness, exercise and health for our nation's children we need to get back to that.
This certainly is a fun event, Myrl. I love old fire engines, trains, and who could resist that big, yellow duck? A great time for the kids (and the young at heart).
