Swatara Canoe & Clean-up Trip
Next weekend, May 7 & 8th, my wife and I are participating in the 23rd Annual Swatara Canoe & Clean-up Trip, also known as the Swatara Sojourn. The Swatara is a River located in Lebanon County, PA about half hour from Reading, PA.
We will be helping to clean-up the Swatara River during this 30 mile canoe trip.
What should make things even more interesting is we're bringing our water-loving dog, Buster, with us!
We have never gone camping with Buster, nor have we ever attempted to put his 75 pound behind in a canoe, so this will be a story to tell! The water is very cold this time of year and we are hoping that he keeps the canoe afloat!
Swatara State Park and the Swatara River have over 3,500 acres of natural beauty in a mostly undeveloped area and is supposed to be a nature lover's playground. This is our first time going to this park and participating in this event. My wife's friend, Autumn, who told us about the Swatara Canoe & Clean-up Trip will be along for the ride as well. After hearing that our dog will be with us in the canoe, she decided that bringing a waterproof camera was a must!
Swatara State Park does have a campground and we will be able to park our car there with our camping gear (to keep it dry) while they shuttle us up to the starting point. You can bring your own kayak or canoe or rent one from the park. For a $30 donation per adult, we're helping to staff the event, pay for materials, and our camping and meals are included as well.
We are looking forward to paddling the clear water for a good cause and giving our dog one of his very favorite things to do- go swimming!
