Armed Forces Day is May 21 - Celebrate it WELL this year. 

A very important holiday is coming up, but if you blink, you might miss it.  DON'T.  You experience many of the freedoms that you have because of those who have served. 

Here are some ideas to make this holiday special.

Begin to make a list of EVERY veteran that you know.  Write it down, begin to gather their telephone numbers into your address book.  Write down when they served, and their branch.  THEN, on ARMED FORCES DAY, Call them.  Be SURE to get the telephone number of their family if THEY are serving.

1) Ask them to tell you what THEY think it is most important that we as a nation remember.  Ask them about the sacrifices they have seen their fellow service men make.  Tell them how much you appreciate them and what they have done for you.

2) Call the family of people who are serving, and tell them how much you appreciate the family's sacrifice also. 

3) Go to a nursing home, and take flags with you.  Write a personal thank you note, and a little treat of some kind, and try to find and shake the hands of every veteran.  (you may need to call in advance and arrange it).

4) If you know a WWII veteran, take them to lunch or dinner.  Or, a Viet Nam veteran.  Or, any veteran.  Take their family too.  Rise at the meal and make a toast to that which has made America great.

5) If you have family members that have passed away, gather as a family and get out their medals, or pictures in their uniforms, and tell your memories to those in the family too young to remember.

6) Pray on your knees in thanks that we have had such heroes - who have given so much.

May 21 is Armed Forces Day.  Celebrate it WELL this year.
