May I take a moment to introduce myself?

Real Estate Appraiser with Donovan Group Realty

Good Evening All!

For those who have not read my blog before, I want to let you know a bit about me and why I'm here.
Ive spent the last 8 years as a real estate appraiser in CA and have enjoyed the highs and lows of that side of the real estate industry.

In the last year, due to the changing business climate in this new era of enhanced overegulation, my appraisal business has unfortunately become more of a hobby than a profession!

To get my real estate drama fix and keep a roof over my head I had decided in late 2010 to start working towards my Brokers License. I am almost done with the prerequisite coursework and am planning to apply for the broker test this month. In order to hit the ground running I have been working with a broker that I have known for several years. I 've been working as her assistant in order to gain that inside edge that you cannot learn in the books.

I have shadowed her almost every day of the week so that I can see as much as possible, and I am here to tell you that agents/brokers truly earn their commission (and then some!). While I knew that I wanted to work with this broker and learn more about marketing, contracts, etc, I am impressed each day with the wide array of talents that are necessary to run your own real esate office and keep the business coming in.

One of the first things that became apparent to me was tha amount of work my mentor has done to build her online pressence. That is my mission here on AR, to make sure that potential clients can find my and also find out about me.

If you have any words of wisdom for a rookie, please do feel free to share. I'm sure that I'm not the only one who is here to learn!

Thanks

--Andrew

Andrew, I enjoyed your post. I came about being a licensed agent by being an assistant to a busy and successful agent of 25 years.  I've learned more in the year and a half+ and 30+ closings we've done together than I would have learned in five years on my own.  I think you took a really smart approach!yello

Thanks Christie, I knew from my appraisal experience that there are many things that the books will not teach you. I'm really glad to have such a good mentor who is willing to teach me (read 'has enough patience to put up with me!).

Nice to meet you to Mike, I have definately found AR to be a great resource. I find that the professionals here are very ready to help out, which is of course a real blessing.

Hi Lauren, thanks for the well wishes. I'll take all the luck I can get!

Andrew - As you're seeing there is so much that you don't see even as an appraiser.
