Finding Purpose Amongst Chaos

Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty

My dad always reminds me to live for today and count my blessings.  He says that tomorrow is not guaranteed so we should only live in the here and now and not let the stress of tomorrow affect us.  Easier said than done, for sure!  But my dad lives this out every single day and I do my very best to follow in his foot steps.

One of my favorite quotes is, "The purpose of business is to fund your perfect life," meaning we should work to live, not live to work.  I think this quote sums up the very reason so many people get into this crazy business.  In Real Estate, you're allowed to make your own schedule, be your own boss and live the life you truly want to live.  Sure, it takes a lot of work and, sometimes, countless hours, but you're building a business in which, if done correctly, it will pay off in the end allowing you to do the things you wish to do the most.  It's called leverage!  You work your rear end off, start building your business, hire an assistant, then a buyer's agent, then a contract-to-close coordinator, and you slowly but surely start allowing yourself more time to live the life you wish while your team handles the business.  Of course you're still there to make the important decisions, but who said those important decisions can't be made from a boat in the Caribbean!?? (if, of course, that is your dream) ;)

I just think at times, a lot of times, we get so caught up in the here and now and forget the big picture; the reason we do what we do day in and day out.  What if this was your last day??  Would you really want to look back at your last day and see that you spent 14 hours at the office only to see your wife or husband or kid 2 seconds before he/she went to bed!??  I know the quote, "if not you, who?" holds true too and I'm not saying we should all go out and play all day!  I'm just saying we need to keep things in perspective.. keep God and family first, go on vacation with your family, spend time with your significant other and NOT talk about work, take a guitar lesson, learn a second or third language, ALWAYS tell the people you love you care, take a road trip to visit your family.. DO the things you want to do and don't just keep adding them to your list.

I just think we all need a reminder from time-to-time that life is short and we need to live and count our blessings daily!  That's all!!
