CAUTION:

When I'm out riding down the road and I see a caution sign, they still grab my attention, after-all that's what they're suppose to do right?  Caution means to watch out or be careful.  Somebody puts it there to warn people that something ahead is going on or about to happen.  Then I noticed what the rest of the sign said and it caught me off guard.  I have seen a lot of signs in my travels but never one like this?

So my question was, who is the sign meant for... me or them?  If I am to use caution... what type of caution should I use and to what extent?  Or is this sign merely cautioning the psychologically challenged of the "Next 1/4 Mile" ahead?  Hmmm...  Sometimes signs can be confusing?  This sign really made me think... It's just a path, a trail, and I'm on a bike for Pete's sake.

Pedaling down the path for the next 1/4 mile I began to wonder (using caution of course) what am I expecting to see or to happen?  For a moment there, I thought I heard a banjo start playing the theme song from Deliverance and instinctively I started to pedal faster ensuring my wife that everything was just fine as I blew quickly past her on the bike trail.

At this point I began wondering if the hair raising up on the back of my neck and arms was self inflicted by my own imagination, or if there was possibly some instance of instinct that was starting to take over my mind, body, and bicycle.  Then it hit me like a brick in the head.... I imagined the absolute worst thought of all... was it possible that I WAS THE MENTAL PATIENT the sign was referring to, OMG!!

Still today, I do not know what this sign meant... Did it mean to slow down or speed up?  :-O

cau·tion -  pronounced [kaw-shuh n]

alertness and prudence in a hazardous situation; care;

OMG! Sally, that's too funny...  I was just thinking that when I commented here earlier!  haha~

On another note, it is really great to see and hear from you.  I miss our chats and I am just as guilty for not commenting on your blog lately... but I do still read your stuff here.

Hoping to make it out there this summer for a couple RE events, would love to hookup for some of Leonards hot malasadas or a cup of java if you're available when I get there?  Sure miss ya and hope you're doing well.

Aloha~  :-)

I am a total sign lover - especially the ambiguous ones.
Reminds me of the dentist in my home town, Dr. Pulley!

Have a happy day -

Haha~ Pamela, beauty is certainly in the eye of the beholder, I too miss many signs and this sign took me turning around on my bike to get a double-take cause it took my eyes-to-brains a couple seconds to register what it actually said.

Normally, I would have ridden right by it and never saw a thing.  The interesting lesson and message here is "I wonder how much other stuff in life we miss even with our eyes open?"  :-)

At first when I was reading your post, much like you, I wasn't sure what to make of the sign. Then reading the comments, LMAO. I'll have to pay more attention to signs.

Brad, Your response and hearing the bangos from Deliverance are just great.  It's amazing how movies, stories, and not fully understanding the meaning of a message makes our minds try to sort things out and pulls in key things to make some conclusion.

Now that moose thing.....watch out in mating season?....territorial at that time maybe....

Both are great signs.  Enjoyed comments also.

Brad,

I don't think I've laughed so hard in a very, very long time! This is hysterical! The whole time I was reading it, I felt like I was riding down that path with you. What an adventure you took me down. And then when you mentioned the bangoes from Deliverance, well, I thought I was going to pee in my pants!

This is truly a winner and an inspiration for William to perhaps offer a photoblogging SIGN contest. I can see you have some still competition and all the other ones are equally funny but your story is the greatest of them all.

YOU'RE A WINNER IN MY BOOK!

Patricia - I was laughing my tail-end off when writing this post.  This wasn't so much to win or even be in the contest, it was getting the chance to let my hair down and just have some fun being a writer with a hilarious sign we passed by.  I still get a kick out of this post and the experience.  Thanks for making me feel like the WINNER with your comment. :-)

Brad! That is just hilarious! I've always enjoyed signs too! Even the some of the regular ones are so funny like: SLOW CHILDREN AT PLAY

Now, I ask you. Are the children mentally or physically "slow"?
