Does a faster cable connection really make a difference?

By

Having cable internet connection turned out to be better than my experience with satellite internet.  The thing that bugged me the worst was going to see a streaming video and having it stop and start and stop and start so I asked the cable company if it would REALLY make a difference if I paid more money ($20 per month) for a faster connection or was it all the same.

They said it REALLY makes a difference so I am trying it.  It really is better!  I have just watched youtube for an hour and the videos were all steady and continuing.  If you've never seen "The Evolution of Dance" you must go there and see it.  I find it delightful every time I watch it.

So in summary I guess you do get what you pay for.

I couldn't do without the fastest connection possible.  I am still amazed that my parents continue to use dial-up service.  Dad's response is simply, "Well, since I've retired, I don't mind sitting here waiting a little while.  What do I have to be in a hurry for?"  Ahh, something to look forward to!

I wonder if a high-speed FIOS score can help my buyer's FICO score?  It may speed up their approval time.  You gotta give 'em credit for trying!

At some point faster is not that different - I have cable at home and T3 lines in the office the cost difference is $50/mo at home and $3000/mo at the office.  I really don't see that much difference (until web 2.0 launches).  So at some point in time enough is enough.  With that said, DSL or cable should be the minimum for video.

I found that I can no longer  stand dial up and dsl makes me crazy. The more speed you get, the more addicted you are. It's like when we first started microwaving stuff. Now waiting for a pot to boil can be infuriating.

You can never go back... well you can, but it's as irritating as poison ivy.

That's a good description.  This faster cable hook up for me means that youtube at night comes through clearly and smoothly.  The last few nights I've watched old Dean Martin and Rat Pack and Sammy Davis Jr. and other delightful clips without interruption by commercials.  I'm just learning but I guess there's a limit to how long a youtube can be so an Archie Bunker show came through in 3 or 4 parts.  Dean Martin, who must have been the smoothest, best-looking singer there was, came in two parts.   Swoon......swoon.....

I'm a speed junky.  I would put a T3 at my house if it didn't cost so much and Cbeyond serviced out here.
