The Players Championship ~ May 9-15, 2011 (Ponte Vedra Beach FL)
It's that time again, Jacksonville! The Players Championship - affectionately known in these parts as "The Players" or "TPC" starts next week, May 9-15. Tickets are on sale now and Ponte Vedra Beach in the Sawgrass area is being spiffed up and vetted for their BIG event.
The locals know the best days to see the pros without a huge crowd is during the week when they are practicing, May 9-11. The Championship officially begins May 12-15 when golf's most talented pros line up to compete for The Players Championship, one of the coveted tournaments on the PGA Tour. The TPC has the 'strongest field and the biggest purse in professional golf history' according to the TPC official site.
The PGA is headquartered in Ponte Vedra Beach, largely due to a land sale of 415 acres of woodlands and wetlands for $1 by Paul and Jerome Fletcher, developers of Sawgrass and major land owners in the PVB (Ponte Vedra Beach) area. The whole story of that is definitely another blog, but let's say it was a win-win for everyone and now we have both the PGA in our backyard and the prestigious TPC every year in May.
So, check out the ticket prices and find some time next week to visit The Stadium Course for one of the highlights of the Golf year. If your tickets allow, you will even have access to the Clubhouse to view some of the incredible paintings of outstanding moments in the Championship's history.
