Real estate staging is a field dominated by women. As women, we have multiple roles. For many this includes wife, mother, daughter, sister, business owner, ...and the list goes on. Often, we are so busy taking care of everyone else, that we neglect ourselves. While breast cancer can strike men, it is the most common cancer in women in the United States. Every woman is at risk for breast cancer and that risk increases with age. Contrary to popular opinion, 70% of breast cancers occur in women who have no family history of the disease.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and today is the first day of the Breast Cancer 3-Day in Philadelphia. This is a 60 mile, 3 day walk to raise money to fund breast cancer research and community outreach programs. On this day, it seems fitting to raise awareness about this disease. While raising awareness of breast cancer is important, taking action is even better. So what can you do?
1. Obtain regular mammogram screening starting at age 40 (earlier if you are at increased risk).
2. Obtain an annual clinical breast examination.
3. Perform monthly breast self examination.
4. Obtain a risk assessment from a health-care professional.
Make taking care of yourself a priority this month.
