In Search of that Illusive Photo - My Adventures With Gargoyles
I recently entered the Active Rain Photobloggers contest, and submitted a photo of a gargoyle I took on a visit to Paris several years ago. I really hadn't looked at these photos, taken while visiting Notre Dame Cathedral, for quite some time. They were filed away in my "Trip to Paris" file and were collecting cyberspace dust.
It was fun to open up this file and re-visit this day in my mind. It was the middle of summer, and blistering hot. We climbed the thousands of crooked, worn steps, but the closer we got to the gargoyles, the faster my heart started to beat. My daughters complained all the way up, and said "oh, mum, not another "ABG" - their acronym for "Another Bloody Gargoyle"! The obstacles in my way were the wired fences, obviously put in place to avoid such newspaper headlines as "Tourist Tumbles to Death Seeking Perfect Notre Dame Gargoyle Photo". Certainly not good PR! The scaffolding was also getting in the way - really, was it that important to hold up this medieval cathedral - really?...
Here are some photos that just couldn't be saved, due to all the obstacles in my lens. The gargoyles that got away.
I just love this grape eating bird, but posts, wires and people got in my way!
Rats! Safety Wires!
