I will say, that moving to the Poconos a few years back rather frightened me. My New Jersey upbringing prepared me well for the pizza delivery guy and walk-to movie theater so, when I actually did move to Indian Rocks, Lake Wallenpaupack, PA, I'll admit, country living took some adjustment. However, I will be the very first to admit, I don't know what took me so long! This lovely little community of Indian Rocks, nestled right between the great Lake Wallenpaupack and the Wallenpaupack River, is really a fine place to vacation and to live!
While it may be small - 460 homes and roughly 120 full time residents as compared to its fine but much larger neighbor, Wallenpaupack Lake Estates, Indian Rocks is quiet and charming, inviting and especially beautiful as each season passes.
Development began in 1955 by four Landsdale, PA couples who purchased 546 acres from Pennsylvania Power & Light with the idea of developing adjacent lakeside land into a small community of vacation, recreation and retirement. We now have many varieties of small cabins, chalets and ranch homes on up to some beautiful log homes with lovely view of the river.
Indian Rocks is a fairly quiet community yet, it actively seeks to foster events that bring families and neighbors together. Of course, there is the newly-renovated pool, tennis courts, ample playgrounds, walking trails and lovely fishing pond but, there's also activities that seek to foster the sense of neighborliness -
the real features that add real value to the quality of the community.
These include the community newsletter that welcomes every newcomer; a bi-annual "Keep PA Clean" garbage collection campaign along its borders by residents; a "Sunshine and Raindrops" section in their newsletters where residents share their families stories; an annual major recycling and garbage collection campaign for residents; a very active women's club that sponsors the July 4th golf cart parade and contest for residents and smaller family members as well as seasonal picnics and potluck.
A full-time administrative staff and an active association board is available and ready to handle anything from maintaining the roads to ensuring quality home construction and maintenance. We also have one of thee best seasonal restaurants in the area called Bradley's on the Lake where the pancakes can't be beat!
The homes in Indian Rocks range in price but, are affordable with some of the lowest association dues around the lake. There is a community beach and boat slip fees are pretty cheap too! Each homeowner has their own septic system but, the community provides water to its residents.
Indian Rocks is a fine, well-run and well-established year-round community that I am proud to call home. Come and visit, stop in for lunch at Bradley's and visit the ladies in the office for more information on how you can enjoy all the pleasures of a vacation @ the rock...Indian Rocks, that is!
