Easy to Make Spring Orchid Arrangement
Really, this is easy--no hot glue involved. It's the kind of project that can be done in thirty minutes, provided you have the materials on hand. The finished product can be used for staging the bathroom, fireplace mantel, or any nook that needs some color. It makes a difference to a vacant house and provides the perception of warmth.
For this project, I bought the materials from hobby stores like, Michael's or WalMart:
- a glass vase, decide how tall you want the arrangement to be
- two branches of tall, silk orchid with pointy green leaves
- two tall bamboo sticks
- green Styrofoam & moss
- strands of raffia
- utility knife
Place the vase on the Styrofoam and trace the shape of the vase using a marker, then subtract one inch all around from this measurement. Using the utility knife, start cutting the edges, until you have a cylindrical shaped Styrofoam. For a practice run, place the cylinder right side up in the vase to make sure that there's an inch clearance all around. Take it out and wrap the cylinder entirely with moss, then place it in the vase.
Trim the orchid branches according to your height preference, and remove extra leaves if it's too crowded in the vase. Stick the orchid branches, one at a time, then add the bamboo sticks last. Check for exposed sides and by using a long handled spoon or stick, press gently to cover the sides.
I finish this arrangement with strands of raffia wrapped around the orchids and the bamboo sticks together. Tie simple knots here and there, then trim the raffia.
It's really easy, even I can do it! I hope this helps with accessorizing areas that need some cheerful touches. Have a great Spring!
