For Sale By Owner Thinks Real Estate Agents Stink!

On Thursday I found a For Sale By Owner in the Local San Diego paper, after showing property in the afternoon I was going to stop by and introduce myself. Before I go out to see a For Sale by Owner I always do my homework – I check to see if the home had been listed before and get an idea of what the past history may have been like. Sure enough this home had been on the market by three other listings brokers. One for eight days, another for 13 days and the last one for 60 days before each listing was canceled--- the MLS descriptions were at best cryptic and no photo's at all for all three times it was listed. So I quickly did a CMA and realized that the home all three times it was in the MLS was over priced not by just a little but a lot.

Well having a strong constitution I went ahead and knocked on the door(oh by the way no sign on the property) and low & behold one of the homeowners was home and invited me in, aha I thought she's pleasant. When I enter the home I was impressed for an impromptu visit, this home could be shown with no need to give advance notice. But here is where the story gets interesting –she immediately started to tell me about how all three agents that she had worked with were a disgrace  to the real estate profession. To make a long story even longer, she proceeded to show me the home which had been very nicely renovated-- as she is taking me through the home she is always referring back to the three agents and her negitive experience. This home is in a great area. .


This seller wants to get every dime they have invested in this home out ( I mean for every little thing). Unfortunately- not doable in the current real estate market. Should agents A, B or C have taken this listing and listed the home over what the market will bear? Unfortunately the damage has been done, this seller thinks that all real estate agents stink.
