Jeff Foxworthy on: Upstate NY

By

For those of you who do not know who Jeff Foxworthy is, Jeff's wry Southern humor made him one of the most popular standup comedians of the '90s. I'd like to share some of his humor on  "Upstate NY". Enjoy, and thanks Danielle for sharing it with me.

"If the speed limit on the highway is 55 -- your going 80 -- and everybody is passing you, you may live in upstate New York.

If you have switched from heat to AC and back again in the same day, you may live in upstate New York.

If your local Dairy Queen is closed from September to the end of May, you could live in upstate New York!

If you install security lights to your house and garage, but leave both unlocked, you may live in upstate New York.

If someone in a Home Depot store offers you assistance and they don't work there; you may live in upstate New York.

If you can drive 75mph through 2 feet of snow during a blizzard without flinching, you may live in upstate New York.

If you have worn shorts and a parka at the same time, you may live in upstate New York.

If you have a lengthy telephone conversation with someone who dialed a wrong number, you may live in upstate New York.

If "Vacation" means going anywhere south of Albany for the weekend, you may live in upstate New York.

If you measure distance in hours, you may live in upstate New York.

If you know several people who have hit a deer more than once, you may live in upstate New York.

If you carry jumper cables in your car and your wife knows how to use them, you may live in
upstate New York.

If your kids Halloween costume is designed to fit over a snowsuit, you may live in upstate New York.

If driving is better in the winter because the pot holes are filled with snow, you may live in upstate
New York.

If you know all four seasons: almost winter, winter, still winter, and road construction, you may live in upstate New York.

If you have more miles on you snow blower than your car, you may live in upstate New York.

If you find 10 degrees a " little chilly ", you may live in upstate New York.

If you actually understand these jokes and forward them to all your upstate New York friends and others, you definitely live in upstate New York."

I live downstate, but I've traveled upstate.  By downstate standards I am a fast driver - by upstate standards - I am driving backwards.....EVERYONE was passing me and yet in Westchester I am generally the one doing the passing.  I must say it is a different skill set. Being able to make any tracks at all in spite of the density of traffic surrounding you is an art form that you guys from upstate don't have!  It is a skill I take pride in and I always feel like a slow turtle while I drive upstate.  I also recognize driving in terms of hours and not miles. I was driving to Fulton and by the time I got past New Paltz, I was measuring the time in hours not miles.....

Ruthmarie - The skills used to drive in each area are definitely different. I can do both, I originally learned how to drive while living downstate, but livng upstate for more than 20 years I developed those skills as well.

Foxworthy is brilliant. His observational skills remind me of a Scottish comedian who you all know - Billy Connelly. Thanks for the morning laugh Derrick.
