The Indianapolis 500; it's May in Indy

Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Indy NE 317-290-7775

They say the Indianapolis 500 Race is the greatest spectacle in Racing…but did you know these fun facts?

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) covers 253 acres and if all the seats were laid end to end; they would cover nearly 100 miles.  The number of hot dogs sold would circle the 2.5 mile oval more than twice!  Do you think bratwurst would be more or less than that?Dario

Coca-Cola sold over 16,000 gallons in 2009 which was actually less than what Miller Lite sold (no surprise there!).  Fries appear to be quite the big seller also, with over 10,000 pounds (the average weight of an elephant) sold.  Another big seller is the chicken tenders that sold more than 2,000 pounds, equal to 13 Borg-Warner trophies!

Did you know that the Motor Speedway offers bus tours that take you on a lap of the Speedway?  You can even upgrade to the full tour that will let you out at the start/finish line for a picture!  The tour around the track is $3.00 for adults and $1.00 for kids 6-15.  We often take our relocation clients on this bus tour; they love it and take tons of pictures.

While the official attendance is never disclosed, the seating capacity is more than 250,000 and the infield increases it to approximately 400,000.

If you are looking for something exhilarating and fun to do; this Race might just be for you.

There's a lot of history at this speedway.  I had no idea of the size of this place or the amount of food consumed during the race.

I'm a NASCAR fan myself Cindy, but I do always watch this one Formula One race every year.... mainly to see those drivers who jump out of that car and onto a plane to Charlotte and drive 600 more miles at Lowe's Motor Speedway.  Tony Stewart was the first and has actually finished in the top 10 in both in the same day.

Indy 500 is an OPEN WHEEL/Indy car race as opposed to the NASCAR Cup race that is also held at the track and that is called The BRICKYARD 400. The Indy 500 is May 29th the SAME day as the Coke 400 in Charlotte * a GREAT day for Auto Racing!

Okay, just in case there is isn't the Formula One or Nascar (although both run at the Speedway) is a picture of a 500 Race Car.

I'm not sure I know Charita, but probably they don't want anyone calculating the revenue and then seeing how much they pay the drivers and getting to their profits?  (Spoken in my dryest accounting voice)...

Cindy, interesting facts about the Indy 500.  We'll be watching snippets on TV, but it won't even begin to compare to being able to experience it in person.  I can only imagine.

Thank you for the post Cindy. I had the great pleasure of attending the 1992 Indy 500. Al Unser Jr. held off Scott Goodyear for the win. The race was amazing and I could have spent a couple of days in the infield museum. The “brickyard” is steeped in history. It is and always will be the greatest sporting event I could ever attend.

Vickie, I have spent far too many races sitting in the Rain (and not Active Rain!)
