Fotos On the Fly – White Plains NY – Gathering Storm

The jet stream has created some particularly volatile weather in our region over the past several years.  Watching storm clouds gather has almost become a hobby.  This was taken about a week ago in the Gedney Farms neighborhood of White Plains NY.  It was in the wake of all of the dangerous tornadoes that hit the south.  There were some isolated tornado warnings in New Jersey – which is rare at any time – although we do get some in the summer around June.  The sky was ominous enough for me to question whether or not I should be out.  The eerie contrast between the bright spring colors and the dark gray sky prompted me to stop for a photo op!  The clouds hung so low that I could almost imagine a funnel cloud forming.  But I had things to do for my clients.  Perhaps I should have listened to my gut.  The the storm did break I could not see three feet in front of me and had to pull off the road.

Hi Liz - Glad you liked it.

Hi Vickie - This is just how it looked.   I have to say it was both beautiful and scary.  Later I found out that there were tornado warnings out for some parts of our area.   You could see how low the clouds were and how ominous it was.  But against all those blossoms and early spring green leaves - it's not something you see too often.  That's why I pulled over to take the shot.  Figured it was not something I'd have a chance to shoot too often.

Hi Susan - We really don't get too many skies like that....I was driving along wondering if I should really be out there....

You did a great job of capturing the colors and the contrasts of the flowering trees and gathering clouds!

Hi Marie - Thanks..but to be honest, the sky did most of the work for me!  It was one of the strangest skies I've ever seen and the trees just budding with all the blossoms made it very surreal.

I guess those types of gathering storms are why the trees there look so pretty.

Hi Debbie - We were probably thinking the same thing...For me it was "OMG - WHAT am I doing out here in my car with THIS coming at me!"  I took the picture because there was a big enough shoulder for me to pull off the road and make use of.

Hi Eric - The trees always look great in early spring.   But against that crazy sky - it was such a contrast.

Hi David - Thanks - it was unusual to catch the sky like that with the blossoms out in full.

Even with the gray skies this is a beautiful picture.  The various colors of nature and how they blend together makes for an interesting picture.  I take it you made it home safe and sound?!

Thank you so much Dee!   I did.  I had to pull off the road - it was like someone had upended buckets of water.  But  I got my job done AND stayed out of trouble....
