I was doing an Home inspection in Mesa Arizona and taking a photo of the patches someone had made to the eave when this little guy showed up as soon as I pointed the camera, I got a second shot then he kind of noded and left.
I sure am glad it wasn't a rattlesnake.

Actually that's a CRO (pronounced crow). A CRO, or Composition Roof Ornament, is considered a good luck charm and helps to frighten away large insects from congregating on rooftops where they are known to party and cause trouble.

I am pretty sure that lizzards do not say cheese. But they can get quite still.
Lizards don't say cheese. They say "bug"! And that is restricted to the talking ones only, of course.
Around here our rattlers can't fly. So never have to worry about one on a roof. Under a house, maybe, but the roof, not so much.
Coatimundis, raccoons, possums, squirrels, bobcats all can be seen eventually on a roof around here though.

Jon, Our snakes don't fly either but they have been known to climb trees, and there is a huge mesquite behind this house that covers a portion of the roof, I am glad I don't have to worry as much about the reccoons and Bobcats as much as the inspectors in your neck of AZ.

Great shot and I love the idea of this little guy as a good luck charm (Mike actually made me laugh out loud with the visual of him breaking up bug parties on the roof)!
