Are Pets in the Dog House?
Clean out the clutter! Keep it smelling nice! Keep it neat and tidy! Remember first impressions! This is our mantra to our sellers.
But when you come down to it, is this even possible when you have healthy pets, never mind the ones that are sick. It is not so easy keeping things neat and orderly.
A solution for a pet owner who is listing his or her house may be to have the pet visit a friend's or family member's home. If possible, a pet day care center is also another solution while the home is on the market.
Keeping a pet in the garage or a locked room is not really fair to the pet and it also blocks the prospective buyer from adequately viewing the room.
And what about those "Beware of Dog" signs. Yes that is welcoming indeed!
One thing to consider is that many people or their children may have been previously traumatized by an animal, and some of these people will refuse to go inside a house where pets are residing.
Other prospective buyers are worried about exotic reptiles and birds and have they escaped their enclosures? Not to mention the dead mice that are kept for their meals. Ugh!!
Allergies are another reason the number of viewers to your home may be down.
Everyone's heard the famous "my (insert pet name) is very gentle and would not hurt anyone." And this turns out to be the one who takes a chunk out of some stranger's body part. Why even take the chance of this happening? Don't you have enough to worry about already?
Dogs that jump on people are really scary to some. If you do leave pets at home, be sure to put them in a carrier and attach a note saying they are not to be disturbed.
Be extra vigilant about removing stains. Clean the litter box regularly. Food and water dishes should be out of the way so as not to be a trip hazard.
And finally, pet owners should know that not everyone likes their pet as much as they do. Please don't let your pet be the reason you don't get the exposure you need or the sale you deserve.
