Yesterday, I celebrated my 1st wedding monthiversay with the luckiest man on earth. (hehehehe) With marriage comes change. One of those changes includes changing the "identity" of the wife. So, I strolled down to the local DPS office today (DMV for some of you) to change my last name on my drivers license. I will have to do the same with the Social Security Administration and many others who knew the "old me."
All of this "change" taking place got me to thinking about the changes buyers, sellers, and renters must make when you are moving. Once you get the "news" that initiates your move there are several things you should do to prepare...besides the obvious packing.
Things to do before/after you move:
- Call the movers
- Schedule utility transfers/disconnections
- Gather important records as necessary (i.e. medical, school)
- Notify banks, creditors, insurance companies, magazines
- Cancel local subscriptions for newspapers, magazines, water service
- Arrange mail forwarding
- Mail "We've Moved" cards to friends and family
This is a very short list of things to do before and/or after you move. Depending on where you're moving the list can be very long. The most important thing for an easy move is to make sure you are organized and prepared.
If you are moving in or around the Houston Area feel free to contact me for a detailed Moving Plan. I'd be delighted to speak with you.
Happy Moving!
