Lesson From The Lakers.....Keep Calm And Carry On....Please?
I'm always using sports as analogies for my business. I think Karen Fiddler hits this one right out of the park about staying calm, which I can alwys use help with.
Lesson From The Lakers.....Keep Calm And Carry On....Please?
My beloved Lakers were swept from Round Two of the NBA Finals. Now? All H*ll is breaking loose. Calm down!!! That's my advice (no one has called me for that, by-the-way).
In 1939, the British Government created posters with the saying "Keep Calm and Carry On." These were designed to give the citizens the boost to keep a "stiff upper lip" during a possible invasion in the beginning of the Second World War....they were never used.
The posters were found about 10 years ago and I'm sure you've seen all the products with this saying on them. Great idea!
My Lakers need a solid dose of this motto. Come on boys.....carry on! We still have all the talent we did a few weeks ago....and all the sports talk shows are talking about what we need to do to "blow up" the team. Really?
Ok...I'm going to relate this to real estate now!
I recently had a deal last week where I swear the buyers were acting like the LA Sports Talk Radio....ready to blow everything up. The problem? The appraisal came in too low. The solution? Lower the sales price. My sellers were willing to do this....so why were we still having issues?
Because the buyers and their agent were now suspicious that we had tried to sell them the home at an over-priced number. What are they talking about?
To me and the sellers, this was a none problem. The home was still in a great area, in great condition and now it was $8000 cheaper for the buyers. But hour after hour, day after day....the agent called to argue with me about the listing price and my negotiating a price that was "clearly" too high. Blowing things up.
I felt like we had done everything right, taken responsibility for what had gone wrong.....and things were blowing up. (I felt the same was true for my Lakers....ok, maybe not quite. But why isn't the talk how great Dallas played?) Finally, I stopped talking to the agent, she worked with escrow and we closed today. I guess everyone was happy. The lesson on all parts?
Keep Calm and Carry On!!!
