You Made the Active Rain Newsletter!

By
Real Estate Agent with One Sotheby's International Realty- Miami Beach Real Estate

Most of you reading this may not know me.  I was back here a lot in 2007/2008.

I may not participate much, though I wish I could, but I do get the ActiveRain newsletter and usually I get it on my phone between appointments---as I guess many of the agents like me do.

I have just one bit of advice:  If you make the newsletter, and if your post is a Member's Only post, please consider that all of us on our phones may want to read your post but logging in to read a Member's Only post is quite tedious while "out and about."  So, if you make the newsletter and want your post read PLEASE CONSIDER MAKING YOUR POST NOT "MEMBER'S ONLY" FOR THE DAY OF THE NEWSLETTER.

Many times I logout or go to the next post that may not be locked down.

Just some insight.

Good point Kevin, and too many posts in my opinion are Members Only for NO apparent real reason, when they do not need to be.

Members Only posts, at least for me, are written because they wouldn't make sense to a non Member. You're right about reading them on the phone, though.

I rarely write a member's only post. Only if I need to grump about something and I don't want it to be seen publicly.

You've made a good point. Ironically, I gained a lot of AR points by logging in to read the members-only daily drop!

I do both Member's Only and Public posts. Insider conversations are just sometimes necessary...and sometimes I talk about situations where the client might recognize themselves..or the agent...so not good. But I never know when I'm going to be in the Daily Drop or not and I'm still not going to make that change for a post that needs to be private.

Welcome back....

Well I wondered why some were and some were not accessible when I was not signed in.  Now I know.  Thanks for the advice which now appears to be so obvious.

Hi, Kevin. We don't know each other but we started about the same time and read your blog back then when it was still free. The comments pretty much explained the Members Only post, re: Rainmaker status. Great to see you here again!

There are definitely some posts, like the rants, that should be private. I agree that most of them should not be Members only. Basic members do get indexed for their comments on Rainmaker's open posts, like this one.

Kevin, you bring up a point I've often wondered about.  I agree with those that have already stated that they think there are way too many member's only posts - needlessly so is usually case IMHO.

I've been on Active Rain for 5 years this August and I've never written a Members Only post. Part of the reason I maintain a blog here, even though I have 3 active ones outside, is for SEO. If your post is Members Only, you miss the Google juice.

I also don't think you should rant in public about somethiing you don't want the public to see you ranting about. Members Only, is still "public" as far as I'm concerned, it's just a smaller segment of the public.

I can read posts on my phone and I don't have to log in anymore.  I think once you log in, you'll stay logged in.

I have not bothered to try and read it on the phone yet.  It just seems like so much work.

Good Morning,  A  person has to pay in order to post publicly here.  Now if you are paying it would make sense to make everything public.  Those members who think it is OK to "rant" to members only might want to rethink that, after all nothing is private on the Internet and membership to ActiveRain is open to everyone. It is just better not to rant unless you can make it funny. :)

I am glad you are back and very busy!  Have a successful fall season.
