People move for so many varied reasons. Change of job, new addition to the family, less family. As a Connecticut home inspector I'm there to help them with the first part of their move.
Recently I had a young couple whose motivation for moving would seem to be a growing family. The home they were purchasing was on a quiet back street next to a school. The home was in need of plenty of work, which this couple seemed more than willing to take on.
As usual I inspected the exterior first, getting up on the roof. As I was finishing up heading back to the ladder something caught my eye in the roof. It was small, round and similar in color to the shingles. I leaned down close and said to my self,
"No way"!
It was a bullet.
Now I have found my share of strange things during home inspections, but this was a bit unsettling.
The bullet hadn't penetrated the shingles to deep, which makes me wonder how it got there. It was obviously not fired directly at the roof. If it had been fired into the air, I would think that falling a great distance would have caused it to penetrate much further. None the less it was there.
I showed my souvenir to my clients who were a bit unsettled by the bullet as I had been, but seem to shrug it off quickly.
After inspecting the entire home the bullet looked to be the least worrisome thing I found that day.
