As my girls were growing up, they were always cycling out of clothes and toys. Sometimes it seemed that their tastes changed as often as the Oklahoma weather. So, I kept a box in the garage that along the way I would toss items to be donated into. About once a month I would get a call from one of many local Oklahoma charities letting me know there would be a truck in my neighborhood picking up clothing and small household goods. I would always tell them that yes, I had a donation. Then I'd put everything from the box into a big bag and put it outside for pick up. Then start the process all over again. Easy peasy.
Then I started to notice that my box was full and I wasn't getting the calls anymore. Why? Well, about a year ago we eliminated our home phone. With teenagers, it made sense to just use cell phones. Who knew that eliminating the home phone would put a wrench in my long time donation system?
So, I started to try and take my donation items to a local drop off. But really it wasn't as convenient as my tried and true system. The box would overflow with jeans and shoes. I would try to drop off the donation only to find that the receiving station was closed. Dropping everything off was just one more thing on my to do list that didn't get done.
Until now. I recently learned about a new to me organization, DonationPickup.org. Back to easy peasy! You visit their website, DonationPickup.org, and schedule a pick up based on your schedule. Leave your donation outside and they pick it up that day and leave a receipt on the door. You even get to pick which charity you would like your donation to go to! You can select from Prevent Blindness Oklahoma, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oklahoma or Oklahoma Foundation for the Disabled. You just print the label provided by the website to ensure that is where it goes.
So whether you are always collecting outgrown clothes and toys to donate, working through a big spring clean, or downsizing as you prepare to move or sell your home, this is a service worth looking into!
