Michigan Service Tax

By
Home Stager with We Stage Greater Detroit, Inc.

A new service sales tax law for Michigan Home Stagers will be taking effect December 1, 2007.  At least that is what the interpretation is at this time that I have been given.  Services like hair cuts will not be taxed, but every other service in a barber shop or hair salon will be.  Get this one, skiing will be taxed, but not golf?  How is there a difference in those two activities?

I would like to hear other thoughts on the new service sales tax law.  Does anyone else know of any details for the Home Staging Industry and Michigan?

It sound like camping is going to be taxed also.

My be Michigan can take the people for leaving Michigan .That would make a lot of money.

Thanks Ted!

I think this is the best idea yet!  With all of the jobs being lost and people moving out of state, maybe we could tax all of them and the companies that closed the plants and laidoff all of the employees!  That would be even more money for them to spend!

Thanks, for your comments.  I know this will be a nightmare for all of the Home Stagers that have never collected or turned in Sales tax, and I think the State will want it paid monthly.  Time will tell.

I heard on TV a few nights ago that Michigan may be leaning toward a fair tax. This fair tax would raise the sale tax from 6% TO 9.5%.But would eliminate SBT,and Michigan income tax.

This sound like it may be a better idea as Michigan would be getting tax dollers otherwise evaded by illegal aliens ,drug dealers, business skimmers and other illegal form of making money. This form of tax would benefit the one who like to save and not spend.

WHAT DO YOU THINK.

Thanks Ted!

I haven't heard that one yet, but today the law makers announced they will be leaving until after the Thanksgiving Holiday.  They want to go hunting and vacationing so the December 1 date just keeps getting closer!
