I am very proud of my profession, not because I sell homes and help people buy homes, though that ain't bad! I am proud because of the quality of the people I work with. I am knocking on the door of 60 years of age, and have had several careers in my life. I have been an athlete, retail business owner, home inspector and chemist at a university hospital. I have enjoyed my work for the most part, though running over a hundred miles a week through my twenties, as a distance runner, was tough at times.
My current and, hopefully, final career is real estate. I have been in this business only about five years, but I have strived to become as educated about this business as possible, in that time. It is a frustrating job at times, but one I absolutely love. The love of this business is in the 'human factor'. I work with Realtors from my company and others, and the vast majority of real estate agents I have met are wonderful representatives and advocates of our communities and our nation. They have been honest, and I don't think I have ever been turned down when I asked for help for a client, or myself, for that matter.
Today, May 12th, was a great example of why this business is so gratifying. Today we had our company's RED day, a day of community service in honor of our company's Vice Chairman's birthday. We chose our downtown YMCA as the recipient of day's work. We cleaned, landscaped, painted and generally spruced up a facility that was really in need of some serious TLC. The agents worked diligently, and had to be harassed to even stop work for lunch. But, the work paid off. Now, the young people coming to play basketball or do crafts or other programs will have a terrific spot to gather. Not one person groused or complained about being dirty, hot or tired. The smiles are typical of the Realtor personality of advocating and loving their community and work, and I am proud to be one!
