Keller Williams Realty has an annual R.E.D. Day (Renew - Energize - Donate) on which corporate wide the independant local offices perform a community service, a day of "Give Where You Live". This year, on the 3rd Annual celebration, Keller Williams Realty Greater Athens volunteers stained a new fence for the Interfaith Hospitality Network of Athens (GA), a non-profit organization whose purpose is to provide immediate shelter and guidance to homeless families with children.

A Bit of Breakfast Before Starting
INHA had recently received a fence surrounding the property so that children staying there could have a place to play safe from the street. That fence needed staining. So on this day, May 12, 2011, volunteers provided the energy and labor to stain the fence. We brought rollers, brushes, painting clothes, drop clothes and probably more energy than expertise and spent about 4-1/2 hours staining several hundred feet of fence, both sides. The law firm of O'Kelly & Sorohan provided the volunteers with a breakfast, after which, we all got to work.

Starting at the Gate
There was a bit of confusion for awhile, with each of us getting in each other's way until we worked out some semblance of order. After that, the staining proceeded quickly. Through the course of the morning and early afternoon we went through 15 gallons of stain, but the fence now looks very good. We had enough stain left to also stain a picnic table that had just been completed the evening before by a regular volunteer for INHA. Of course, a few minutes after staining, one of our folks sat down.

Finished With the Gate
It was an enjoyable day of messy, sweaty work, but all of us felt great about giving up those hours for this service. About 8 of us made it through the whole work event but there were a total of 17 agents who contributed effort, tools and encouragement to this effort.

Almost Finished!
Only 364 days left until next years R.E.D. Day. If you aren't with Keller Williams, go ahead and plan your own community service day. It will not only do good, but, it will help you feel good.
