What was it like bathe in a 1950’s bathroom?

In the early 50's most bathrooms were considered a utility room and just big enough to hold the tub, toilet, and sink.

As the decade advanced, the economy and average family size grew.  Bathrooms became larger and more luxurious.

Counter space was often scarce.   Lots of pedestal sinks and mounted sinks with thin chrome legs.

Pastel colors were fashionable.  Bath tubs, sinks, and toilets had matching hues.

4" ceramic tile dressed floors and walls.

Wow! Bathrooms have come a long way!

Barbara - Don't know how you got the photo, but the green bath is the one I grew up with: )  Interesting how baths have changed.

Barbara, they sure have! They may have just been a utility room back then but I bet having one was a big deal compared to an outhouse!  :-)

Barbara,

Tonight while showing homes a buyer asked why "split level" homes were no longer desireable.  We talked about how homes have evolved and the style has been left behind.  It's not that it's not functional, but folks are looking for a little more living space than most older "split level" homes provide.

Designs, styles and uses change.  I don't miss the alvocado green myself.

All the best, Michelle
