Talk about eco-friendly building! I always dreamed of a home built like this and today Georgina posted a blog post about this adorable little hut that was on their Realtor Caravan tour in Maui!!!

Wouldn't it be great to have a house like this, albeit somewhat larger!

Mandala Eco Homes now make deluxe yurts for Maui

Today on Haiku Realtor Caravan I saw the cutest little hard-sided yurt made of coconut wood, by Mandala Eco Homes.  The walls, floor and deck are made of either coconut or tropical hard woods, and the roof is a double layer of canvas with stainless steel fittings to withstand the high humidity of the Hawaiian climate.

Since the total square footage is 200 sf or less, this kind of structure does not require a building permit on AG lands here on Maui.  Of course it should not be used as a dwelling, because that would require a permit, but it can make a great temporary spare room!  It was looking very chic with a bed and bookshelves.  What a nice spot for meditating or perhaps doing yoga.

The owners of the company have a factory in Bali where each structure is pre-assembled before being dismantled and shipped to Hawaii.  They have really put a lot of thought into each structure, and use ecologically sustainable plantation grown hardwoods.  These yurts are screwed together so they can be moved easily when needed.

The fine details inside are very impressive, with inlaid floors, and hand carved trim over the windows and doors.  You'll really love the warm feeling you get when inside one of these wooden octagon yurts.  This model sells for about $30,000 complete with a little deck around it.

They also produce a whole line of homes and gazebos which have been approved for building on Maui.  If you're thinking of building a home on Maui, it would be worth checking these guys out.  And if you have any questions about buying land, or a home on Maui, please let me be of assistance.

thanks for the reblog!  I think it's adorable too.  A client of mine is getting one of the 3 bedroom homes, but they haven't starting building it yet.  I can hardly wait to see it and maybe get to document it on my blog!
