Change the locks!

door lockYou just purchased a new home and you think you have all of the bases covered.

One last thing : CHANGE THE LOCKS!

I am not implying that the seller is going to come back and break into your new home, but you need to think about all of the other people, contractors and even neighbors who may have the keys to your home.  It is always best to be safe than sorry.

And if you are renting, most states if not all require the landlord to change the locks in between each tenant.  So make sure you are protected by asking them to do so.  Not only will that be more protection for the tenant, but it also relieves liability to the landlord in the event the property is broken into.

Have a great day!

Great info Diane. AND another tip; change the little face plate screws in the door jam to THREE inch screws. Makes it harder to break in.
