Many Hands Make Light Work

You've probably heard this expression a gazillion times, but did you know where it came from? This quote has been attributed to English playwright and poet, John Heywood who lived from 1497 to 1580. His message was clear. If you have enough people helping out on a project, a great deal of work can be accomplished in a short period of time.

This was our premise when we asked for volunteers at our last business meeting. The landscaping and planting beds around our office had taken a beating this past winter and the weeds had taken over again.  In total, we had 10 volunteers who offered to spend today on an office beautification project. Among the ranks were our Managing Broker, Office Administrator, two affiliates from our title and insurance companies, and 6 REALTORS from our office. All the plant and hardscape materials were donated by the group and included day lilies, pansies, petunias, impatiens, marigold, azalea, iris, hostas, a bird bath and fieldstone for the walkway. AND, our managing broker sprung for an outlandish pizza lunch for the troops.

If you are looking for a team building activity, and need a little beautification around your office, this kind of project is a great way to have fun and work with your associates. We all have busy schedules right now, but came together as a group to make this happen. Of course, we all had our cell phones on :)

Our condo association did the same thing with our courtyard. We all worked together. It was fun, and looked terrific when we finished!

Matt - Eleven kids is an enormous family! That must have been a real challenge for your folks, but I'll bet you were all very close.

#2 - Thank you for stopping by! You must have had a great time with your courtyard. I know we sure did with this project.

Hi Kathleen - As you know, when you are Better Homes & Gardens, you better keep up your appearance around the office :)

Andrea - Thank you! I took my Chris back to the office later this evening to show her our progress and ran into Paige, one of our newer associates who helped on the project. She had brought her whole family back to show them the work we did today too!

Cindy - Thank you for dropping by. This was one way we could "invest" in our businesses and be part of a team. Like you, we are part of a very large brokerage and brand, but in our own small way, we helped to improve our image to ourselves and the public. We are a very unique office in the sense we are all open with each other and help each other. No other real estate office functions like we do and that is due to the efforts and leadership of our managing broker. I am very proud to belong to BH&G The Masiello Group!

John, how apropos that you share the same name with the poet. He was a wise one. I'm impressed with the job you all accomplished. It's great that you have a wonderful team, including the president of your board and the title company. It all sounds so much fun and I can tell that you like each other. Your broker is a great leader for getting a team to work together on a worthy project. I would be a walk-in if I were buying property there. :)

Hi Elizabeth - This project was so much fun. Sure, we could have hired this work out, but we wanted to own it. Great to be back in the Rain.

Good morning John;  Very nice post.  My father used to say that all the time.  I'm always happy to share my commission with another Realtor as long as the extra "hands" made the work "light"

Sharon - Thank you so much! The best part was the team building. And we all volunteered. We did not badger each other into participating. Even today around the office, everyone was so proud of the work we accomplished. Truly a growing experience and I'm anxious to find another one for us!
