That Jorgen Guy Is Alright!

If you've been on ActiveRain for four years like I have, you have read or know about some controversy that pops up around here. Sometimes it's fascinating to watch, sometimes embarrassing, and sometimes painful.

The latest are here and here, if you've been asleep for the last few days, and Jon's latest entry yesterday. These are painful to watch for me and I'm sure for many of us.

I won't opine on the manner the parties concerned left, but I would like to wish everyone, those who left and those who remained, the very best. It's a fact of life that we choose what is best for ourselves, our families, and our business.

I don't know the AR founders and the remaining staff personally, but I know of them and what they've done for the AR community. If you'd like to wish Jon and Jorgen well, and thank them for their work, dedication, and vision please visit the links above.

Regardless of how you feel about the eulogy post, I'd like to thank Jorgen Hahn publicly for the special help he gave me the other evening. His post included the activeumbrella, a link that allows transfer of your AR blog to WP blog (if you choose to). John Novak pointed out how nice it was that he did that, and I agree.

What wasn't mentioned in my previous blog was that my first and second attempts didn't transfer. I e-mailed Jorgen about it, and to my surprise he responded...  many times!

When I created my WP account, I chose ofallonrealtor, but when I created the blog itself, I named it happyblogs instead. Jorgen pointed this out to me, and at first he said the program won't support this anomaly. BUT didn't stop there... he created a beta version just for me, then he modified the code later to allow for the different WP account and WP blog for everybody else.

This is probably the kind of help he gave AR members while he was working as a one-man IT band here. Doesn't it say what kind of person he truly is?

So, thank you Jorgen for your generous spirit, and my very best wishes to you in your future endeavors.

I had problems too and he emailed me right back and all my files are being transferred as we speak.  In the special instructions that he posted, he said to be sure to activate the XME-RCP in the writing tab and it worked! Awesome!

Yolanda - very nice words for Jorgen. As for what's going on with Active Rain, we can only see. Sometime things work for the better, sometimes not. Or, as with Ebay, sometimes things get better only to get much worse.

Good companies often become too big for the individual, and often another company takes over, causing the individual to move on. Seems like that is what happened here.

Good afternoon, Mike. Profound... "sometimes things get better only to get much worse," but I hope not. :)

Kathy, you and Mike are just waxing poetic this afternoon, and I love it. I hope Jorgen reads what you said. Thank you. :)

Eric, you might be right. We move on at some point in our lives for many reasons. Thanks for dropping by!

Yolanda: We will just have to wait and see what the future holds. I'm sure we will be hearing from them sometime in the future. We have all come to realize nothing stays the same; we just have to adjust and move on. Each day is a new opportunity, just have to grab hold and go along for the ride.

I tried or Ceil tried to transfer the blogs to WP but was unsuccessful. I'm not going to worry too much about it, some are way back from 2007 and no telling what I wrote back then. Hope the blogs from the TEX Mascot and the pretend wedding didn't get transferred, folks would think I'm crazy.

Hi, C&C! Things are always changing, especially technology. I'm sorry the transfer is unsuccessfull for you. It's frustrating when that happens.

I remember that blog wedding. It was wild... perhaps you can post in the Wild Wednesday Group. It fits! LOL

Hi, Eva. It seems like a few are having the same problem. With the different account/blog name, you might have to e-mail Jorgen directly about it.

Incidentally, here's another blog that has instructions to follow step by step by Brad Andersohn:
http://therainblog.com/how-to-import-activerain-to-wordpress/

I did not  do it this way, obviously, but I hope this helps some. Thanks for the comment! :)
