Great News For Gloucester Township Camden County NJ Finally Cracks Mag's List

Gloucester Township has finally made its first appearance on a local magazine’s list of the best places to live in South Jersey.

South Jersey Magazine ranked the township the 25th best place to live in Burlington, Camden and Gloucester counties in its Top Towns 2011 list.

Gloucester Township had made the magazine’s list of top Camden County towns in 2009 and 2010—ranking No. 9 both years—but this is the first time it cracked into the list for all three counties.

"It's a recognition of our efforts to improve the quality of life for the residents of Gloucester Township," Mayor David Mayer said Thursday. "We want to make it a place people want to live, work and play, and I think we're doing that."

This year, the magazine named the township the No. 6 place to live in Camden County.

Gloucester Township also ranked this year in two other categories among towns with more than 8,000 residents:

• No. 5 in top property values
• No. 19 in lowest residential taxes per average residential value

South Jersey Magazine, which published the rankings in its May issue, culled data from the state Department of Education, Division of Local Government services and the New Jersey State Police Uniform Crime Report.

The criteria for the rankings include average residential property value, residential taxes per value, reported crime, SAT scores, college-bound high school graduates and performance on standardized tests.

"Our goal is to be No. 1, and we're going to work every day to do just that," Mayer said.

The mayor noted a number of factors he feels are important to residents, including quality of schools, policing strategies, infrastructure reliability, cleanliness and taxes.

He added he would put what is offered by Gloucester Township Public Schools up against any K-8 district in the area, and noted that Black Horse Pike Regional School District high-achieving students' college placements are as impressive of those in Cherry Hill, Medford and Moorestown.
