Sharks and Blue Bottles couldn't keep me away

It was a stunning sunny Sunday morning in April when I turned up to swim 1 kilometer for the first time in my life. The course was set and the fund raising had been done, 34 people donated a total of $1,345 if I made it home in aid of the Children's Cancer Institute and let me tell you, sharks and blue bottles couldn't keep me away. There were over 1000 starters aged from 8 years to 89 years and of those 886 finished, with me coming in at 854th! I was very happy with that, it was my personal best after all. Most importantly our team, the ACES raised over $55,000 on the day. A great effort, at beautiful Balmoral beach, part of my farm area and a community event that I can now talk about all year round. This event has been swum every year for 20 years and I have only just joined in. What do you have going on in your community that you could join in?

What a great event, it's healthy, raises money and awareness and is part of the community, looks like a fun time by all. Congrats on finishing the swim, hopefully it will be an annual event for you.

Good morning Geoff, now get busy practicing because you've set the bar for a personal best and an annual post. How cool will it be to post every May 14th with links to the previous years' events.  Your smile says it all about how you feel to be part of the eventual solution.

Hi David and Mona, you guys are the best, it's all about being there and the rest follows, I swam and my wife was betting against me so I will be back next year, the only thing that disappointed me was that the swim had been running 20 years before I got involved. My advice is, find out now what you could be doing to make a difference, today. thank you.
