Beering Hall is located on the central campus at Purdue University and is home to the liberal arts progam at Purdue. Future teachers know this building quite well as they have spent many hours taking Education classes to prepare them for a future career in education in our nation's schools.
Beering Hall is named in honor of former Purdue University president Stephen Beering.
Leilani, I just hope I'm not around when that large student returns to claim his pencil! ^_~
It would take a mighty giant man to use that pencil.. What an unusual piece of art, but very fitting. Thanks for sharing.
Judi, it certainly is a unique work of art but very fitting for the Beering Hall of Liberal Arts and Education! Did you notice that is was "regulation" #2 composition? ^_~
Hee, hee...you're funny, Bruce! Hopefully the large student doesn't return for a while...the grass and trees look so nice the way they are. :)
Purdue could use several large students to help out their football team, Leilani! Purdue does have an absolutely beautiful campus year round!
Very interesting Bruce! I was wondering what department as you can imagine so many with a pencil sculpture.
Dee Dee, Beering Hall is the cornerstone of the Liberal Arts and Education programs at Purdue University. I had several grad classes in Beering Hall for my continuing education to keep my teacher license active.
Ann, I did try and get the name changed to ROOTBeering Hall but they wouldn't go for that!
Yes Ann we have Beering Hall and would you believe the building next door is called FLUSHING Hall? ^_~ (it's not but it would be a good match)
Hi Bruce, love that giant pencil. When I saw the title Beering Hall...a pencil did not come to mind! Well, it would be inappropriate to have a gigantic beer bottle on campus, I'm sure.
Hi Mary! The students interested in the other "Beering" educational facility go a few blocks down the hill just off campus to Harry's Chocolate Shop and quaff some adult beverages.
Hi Bruce, What a great shot! Love the pencil, I wonder how many college students have tried to "climb" that thing in the wee hours of the night, after having too much of Mary's beer.
Hi Sandy, that is a very good question and I am sure it has happened, as well as being used by some inebriated coeds using it as a dance prop. ^_~
How exciting to see the pic of Purdue! For me Purdue has always just been a magical place in a far away land where really smart people go to school and come back to do important things. In this picture I can see it's just bricks and mortar. You have the best pictures on your blog!
I loved you and Souza's banter about the pencil. It does grab your attention and focuses the mind on what school is about.
Hi Maya, it does surprise me that people around the nation know about Purdue University. Those of us in the area who have lived here for so long just don't have the perspective of Purdue being known outside the state. It is great to hear/read comments like yours, Maya! It really is a beautiful school and US News has it ranked as the 18th best public university in the country.
Bruce- looking back at my college days- I lived in dorm called Freddie- you may as well have called it Beering Hall!!! lol!
Shanna, I have heard of some certain beverages being consumed in college dorms and fraternities!
