Art on the Square in Belleville, Illinois
It's the last day of the Art on the Square this afternoon capping the show's 10th year anniversary. It's the culmination of a much anticipated event that brings talented local and out-of-state artists, and commerce, for three days to the city of Belleville, Illinois.
This juried exhibit and sale of fine art was ranked first in three of the last four years among other major art fairs based on sales figures. Hundreds of thousands have attended this event since its opening, and from 850 - 1,000 exhibitors apply, but only 100 participants are invited.
Last Friday's attendance was very good, but the rains yesterday and cooler temperatures kept the crowds away. Today was no different unfortunately, with more rain, wind, and a temperature in the 50s. Alas, the crowd was thin, though a few still braved the elements anyway.
Just a couple of hours before closing, in spite of the wind, drizzle, and cold this unsinkable go-getter left the comforts of her home in O'Fallon, Illinois grabbed her two little cameras, raingear, and umbrella to catch a few snap shots:
Best of the Show 2011
Artist - John Costin, Etching - Tampa, Florida
Artist: Sam Stang, Glass - Augusta, Missouri
(Artist Unknown: The Dolomites, Italy)
Artist: Kevin Trobaugh, Metal - O'Fallon, Illinois
The Fountain (the Square) behind this moving sculpture should have been full of people. It's 35 minutes 'til closing, so wet, cold, and windblown, it was time to say so long... until next year.
