There is just no way around it. Many people live in Olathe and make it their home because of the quality of schools the Olathe School District offers. Myself included.
When my wife, family and I knew we were coming back to the Kansas City area we interviewed three school districts. And while there was certainly nothing wrong with either of the other two, Olathe stood out head and shoulders for our needs. We have four children, two with special needs and one with an Einstein brain. We needed both ends of the spectrum and everything in between from our school system.
We chose Olathe and then we had to find a house. Now because of our we may have done the process a little more deliberately than most. But I think you will find that many, many residents of Olathe are here not only because of the quality of life but specifically for the schools.
Which brings me to the mail in ballots that are due by Noon on October 16, 2007. First, as Americans, I want you to vote. But I also want to urge you to give the schools what they need to succeed.
I speak not only as a parent but as a real estate agent. Olathe real estate values from the school district. The Olathe School District attracts home buyers and families. That drives up demand. It's one of the reasons that as the rest of the nation is experiencing dire real estate value issues, we here in Olathe are going through a slow sales period but home values, by in large, are not falling.
Don't put it off any longer. Look for the green envelope and mail in your vote. Your voice matters.
