Some easy first steps for the social media newbie, Part 1 (Will you please LIKE Me? I'll LIKE You!)

Real Estate Agent with Roy Wheeler Realty Co.

As I mentioned in a post last week, I was delighted to finally make it to the webinar, SMMCamp (Social Media Marketing Camp).

HERE it is:  Please LIKE ME!  http://tinyurl.com/6jv5lyj  (Tell me in the comments below, and I'll go like you, too!)

1. There's no question that accepting the "Blog Each Day" challenge in January got me settled into Active Rain.  I'm doing the May challenge, too, and it's a good thing... I was just beginning to miss a day here and there, and this has waked me right back up.  For anyone who hasn't yet accepted one of those challenges, it's definitely the way to get started.

During the SMMCamp webinar, our very own Katerina Gassett, gave a great talk.  She said, among many other things... write TEN blogs each week, write ten comments each day.

Sound daunting?  It doesn't need to be.  Work out a schedule.  Do some advance work.  I'm still working the kinks out, but here's what I'm working on...

Monday -  write blog to Active Rain membership, like this one I'm writing now
Tuesday - write a localism blog, I am writing each Tuesday a feature called "Zero to 60 Charlottesville", things to do within 60 miles of Charlottesville.  Pick something similar.  Some people are doing 365 Wherever, something to do each day of the year.  How about... each Tuesday, write about a different restaurant, a different food store, someone in a service industry, like your doctor or car mechanic....
Wednesday - write a real estate blog, i.e. Preparing your House for the Market, Home Inspections, etc... www.HouseLogic.com is a great source for this, in my opinion
Thursday - Highlight one specific neighborhood (localism)
Friday - write about what's happening in your area this coming weekend
Saturday & Sunday - I usually use the weekend days for market updates, I'll do one Charlottesville property that I think is interesting, or I'll see how many waterfront properties are available, or how about historic homes, or how many listings came on in Earlysville, that sort of thing.

Do you know what keeps me going?  I keep doing things that I never would make time for before... Now I do them with a purpose, and I learn something about the market, about a place near Charlottesville, or whatever.

The other three (for your total of ten; I haven't accomplished this very well, but here's an idea) blog posts...  Two Re-Blogs with at least 50 words of comment from you and one Photoblog, a great photo with a minimum of 50 words.

2. That FACEBOOK FAN PAGE, or shall we call it The UGH Page.  I would say "just do it", but try to think it through.  Tie it in with your blog somehow.  This way, you can post the link to your daily blog there.  Or. what I am doing... I have titled my page "Zero to 60 Charlottesville", and I am posting my Tuesday posts as well as ....  I have friended venues in town that have things going on like the Arts Council, the Performing Arts Pavilion, the Downtown Charlottesville group.  I have my Fan Page set up to send and receive messages from my Twitter, too!

But, I need LIKES...  Will you please LIKE my page?  Write a quick comment that you have done that, give me your link, and I'LL GO LIKE YOU, TOO!

HERE it is:  Please LIKE ME!  http://tinyurl.com/6jv5lyj

OKAY... Please go LIKE me even if you don't have a page.  If you remember to come back here when you do, I'll LIKE you then! Promise!

Next Monday, I'll let you know how far I've made it with LinkedIn and Twitter and what seems to be working.

Happy Blogging!

Virginia -  Great blog plan.  I was also on the SMM Camp call and have been considering how I will implement Katerina's advice.  Glad to see you are just jumping right in with your blog! I will like your fan page as well, because I realize how hard it is to get likes, I need some too.  I am hoping to get to 25 likes soon so that I can get a vanity facebook url.  Good luck to you!!
