Law enforcement agencies throughout Denton County will participate in a nationwide observance of National Police Week.

As part of the observance, Denton County will be holding a memorial service on Wednesday, May 18 for six Denton County law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty.

The memorial service, the 15th annual Denton County Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Service will be at noon Wednesday in front of the Denton County Courts Building located on 1450 E. McKinney St, in Denton, Texas.

 

National Police Week

 

Below is a list of law enforcement officers that will be honored in the memorial.  All residents are invited.

 

Detention Officer Floyd Cobberly, Denton County Sheriff's Office, killed by a prisoner during a jail break Feb. 24, 1897.

Special Deputy Robert Bruce Parsons, Denton County Sheriff's Office, shot and killed during the investigation of a criminal gang Aug. 6, 1925.

Deputy Carl (Red) Garrett, Denton County Sheriff's Office, shot and killed during a liquor raid July 3, 1934.

Texas Ranger Bob Doherty, shot and killed during a drug raid Feb. 20, 1978.

Trooper Hollis Steven Lacey, Texas Highway Patrol, killed in an automobile accident while pursuing a traffic violator Dec. 26, 1980.

Sgt. William Keith Thurston, Denton County Sheriff's Office, killed in an automobile accident while answering a distress call Dec. 6, 1986.
