You may remember my recent blog about Jerry, the Denver Fireman that was looking for a home. Well, we did find him a great old Denver Square that has spectacular original woodwork that even includes functional pocket doors between the living room and dining room.
Jerry is a true history buff (you wouldn't BELIEVE his collection of fire memorabilia). During our outings to look at homes, Jerry took me by three of Denver's oldest operational Fire Houses.
I would like to share with you the oldest in Denver; Fire House #3, which is located at 2500 Washington St. Station #3 serves Denver's Historic Neighborhoods of Curtis Park and Five Points.
This Deco styled Firehouse was built in 1931, and was initially, Denver's only fire station that was staffed entirely by black firefighters.
This old historic building is gorgeous! Built in red brick with light brick trim, it has a multi colored tile roof. It carries a staff of 4 firefighters.
I think that one of the things that I appreciate most about this firehouse are the beautiful old wooden doors that grace the front of the building. The planting of the tree in front definitely was a good idea! I can't believe that my trusty old Blackberry took pictures this good!
