I've been thinking about an old friend today. It's raining unbelievably, and whenever the weather was this wet, she'd always say, "it ain't fit for ducks out there!" And indeed it isn't. I usually do a Zero to 60 Charlottesville post on Tuesdays, but who wants to go anywhere but someplace indoors? I mean, we're talking monsoon weather out there.
I'm not a huge shopper. I certainly can spend money right up with the best of them, but I've just never enjoyed the shopping experience itself. I'm married to a shopper, though, so that's a good thing. And I know everything there is to know about shopping in Charlottesville. You have to, you know... if you want to be able to go get exactly what you want and not spend a lot of time doing it, you have to know where to go. So, if you want to know where to go shopping in Charottesville, I can tell you that; just don't ask me to go with you! :-)
Because the weather is so crummy, I thought I would focus my first shopping post on Charlottesville's one and only enclosed Mall, the Fashion Square Mall. Fashion Square was built by, and is still owned and managed by, Simon Malls. As a shopping mall, it's had it's ups and downs, but I have to say, as I walked around the mall today, I thought it looked good and the mix of stores seem to be interesting.
This is the local shopping mall that has the JC Penney's and the Sears and the department store, in this case, Belk. In between these you
have some higher end stores like Abercrombie and Fitch, and there's a Gap, Crew, and an Eddie Bauer. You'll find bookstores and card stores, and there's specialty lingerie, teenie bopper clothing, and clothing stores for mature women. There are jewelry stores and phone stores, and a favorite of mine, a Coach store.
The Build a Bear store caught my attention, and I thought that might have had a little action on a day like today, but no. I've never been in a
Build a Bear store, so I looked around, and it really is a cute idea isn't it? I think, if I was to build a bear, it might have to be dressed in tie dye!
Smack in the center of the Fashion Square Mall is a Starbucks, the perfect spot to enjoy an afternoon latte and write this post. Stay dry out there!
