How do you expect to survive..

much less thrive in this business, when you can't even answer the phone??

can't answer the phone

Granted, I understand in real estate, especially now as we're in Spring and heading into Summer, we as agents get busy and can't always answer the phone.  We're in meetings, showing houses, in the middle of negotiations, etc.  But what's the excuse for not returning a phone call?  If your seller or buyer only knew!

I called 5 listings agents yesterday, "Hi, I have someone who is potentially interested in your listing located at xyz but he has a couple of questions; can you give me a call when you get a chance?  I would very much appreciate it!"  Of these 5 agents, only 1 actually answered and 1 other called me back.  Still no word from the remaining 3.  If the seller only knew!

In real estate it is our business and our responsibility to represent our client's best interest.  I will never understand how you can represent your client to the best of your ability if you can't even return a simple phone call.  No wonder so many people have nothing but negative feelings towards real estate agents.  I take it as a personal challenge to change people's minds about Realtors, one buyer and/or seller at a time!

Britney - That is a big pet peeve of mine. If I can't answer immediately, I ALWAYS call back. Thanks for posting.

Britney, you hit a cord on my pet peeve list.  It makes me crazy trying to get info from other agents.  One of my clients recently found that if she called the listing agent they answered nearly every time, if not, they returned every call she made.  When they found out she was my client their attitude changed, but up to that point she got priority service.

Yes, it is a pet peeve on mine also, and I usually try to call back quickly. I'll have to admit that right now I'm getting so many calls about other broker's lower end listings (I work a lot as a buyer's broker) that I'm letting some slip through, but any calls on my listings? No way, they can't go unanswered!

You are so right, if their seller only knew!

totally true. I do not understand (as an example) why agents will handle their own showings on listings (cost?) and then not answer the phone. If I can schedule 10 showings in a day...I will pull the 15 to 18 that fit best...once I get my 10 showings...they agents that do not answer are gone....just stupid.

Answering the phone or returning calls seems to be a thing of the past for many agents. It's one of the most frustrating things to deal with especially when you're trying to show a listing. This is a great disservice to sellers.

Hi Britney... I agree with you!  Agents who don't return calls make me nuts...  almost as much as buyers agents who call and leave a voicemail every 10 minutes because they think that will expedite a repsonse to their call.

Britney - I agree with your assessment. If you are afraid to talk to people you shouldn't be in the real estate business. Just plain stupid. Return the call asap.
