The Amherst Rocking Chairs at 108 Ponemah Road
When I heard about this contest there was one photo that immediately came to mind. Its the Brin Realty Group Amherst front porch rocking chair photograph.
Each Spring the chairs are brought back from the barn to their proud spot on the front porch and they sit beckoning us to join them.
They rock in the wind, as if to tease us and say, come out and sit a spell!
- We sit out on windy days and on sunny days.
- We sit in coats and in sweaters.
- We sit and rock with lemonade and shorts and tee shirt.
- And we sit in our finest before or after our appointments.
- Agents who have been around a while know when a thunderstorm hits, if I’m in the office, I head to the front porch. The rain pours down and thunder rumbles and rolls as it has for over a hundred years by this wonderful front porch.(When the storm gets close we run back inside!)
The porch is deep and its wide with plenty of room for guests. I can imagine the lazy Sunday afternoons spent on the porch and wonderful garden parties with good friends and family.
We have photographs of the Heath’s, the original owners of the property. Mr. Heath was the Stationmaster for the local Railroad. He had the house custom built and the original blueprints hang in the hall going up the stairway.
We have a photograph of Mrs. Heath on the front porch in HER rocker, in her long dress appropriate for the year (how DID they garden in those dresses?).
Another photo that is about 100 years old shows Mrs. Heath with her two girls in a buckboard in front of the house and the front porch looks exactly as it does today, amazing.
The front porch at 108 Ponemah is a joy and we enjoy it about eight months of the year.
