TWITTER TWITTER EVERYWHERE in Buckhead Atlanta GA
showing up to be read in my INBOX every day is so much fun.
Click and the hottest, newest, and best-est technology news is right there in front of me -- waiting to astound me. And astound me it does every time I read the articles. Of course, I don't always UNDERSTAND everything I read in GIZMODO! Coming from Gawker Media located in NY, GIZMODO offers excellent writers, first rate stories and, important to me, documents its stories respectfully. With GIZMODO, you can track back to the original source if you follow the links (usually) provided.
Today the GIZMODO focus is on TWITTER. The history of TWITTER is a brief one but a very interesting one. There are always different stories about how anything got started but TWITTER TWITTER EVERYWHERE has a clear story.
The story begins in 1999 and then continues in 2006. The short updates from friends appealed to TWITTER founder, Jack Dorsey. Others commented about the shift in information handling as well.
"Our whole lives are about doing more in less time, trying to cram everything into 24 hours, in a day that is filled with constant interruptions. Instant messages, emails, and the constant chirping of cell phones have surely and slowly squeezed our attention spans. We have responded this to customizing the digital world according to how lifestyles." Om Malik, 7/2007
Early on, there were (at least) two options - POWNCE and TWITTER. Now TWITTER TWITTER EVERYWHERE and Pownce is gone. "Pownce was closed down on December 15, 2008. The engineering team and technology are now a part of Six Apart, makers of the best blogging tools around. We want to give our heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated on Pownce. We all got to meet and know so many wonderful people through Pownce and we'll dearly miss sharing stuff together in the future. Hopefully we can all stay in touch through other means and keep these friendships alive. Thanks to all of you, The Pownce Crew".
OK, so where is Six Apart now? Mena Trott, co-founder answered that question in September 2010. "My husband Ben and I started Six Apart in 2001—and with you, the bloggers and creators, we changed the way people expressed themselves online. In doing so, we have helped to redefine the media landscape. Thank you for embracing our platform and for sharing your voice, your passions and expertise. Today we announced that Six Apart is joining forces with VideoEgg to form a digital media company called SAY Media. The new company will continue to embrace our mission to make creators successful by helping them grow and monetize their audiences. Together we will create a modern media company that will better serve both creators and advertisers. As we move forward, I will continue to have an active role in the new company. I hope you will join me, as you always have, in shaping our future."
Then about Six Apart, its Chairman and CEO Chris Alden, said: "Those of you who've followed us over the years have seen us through a number of changes as Six Apart, and the industry we helped to create, has evolved. What started with a simple goal to make creating and publishing content for the web easy, became a social publishing platform that today powers some of the biggest brands on the web, as well as passionate individuals—those of us who simply want to express ourselves, share our expertise or insights, and reach an audience of like-minded others."
"Six Apart helped empower people and companies to publish. And they did. With amazing content they created valuable publishing properties with massive and engaged audiences—the influential audiences that advertisers want to reach. Over the past several years we have grown another side of our business, Six Apart Media, which has focused on helping publishers turn their passions into businesses and on helping marketers authentically engage these publishers and their audiences."
So - for the sake of brevity - the evolution of POWNCE led it into blogging and becoming www.saymedia.com. That left the field open for TWITTER TWITTER EVERYWHERE.
I want to ask the reader to switch over to the GIZMODO article about the origins of TWITTER. The article is so clear and conscise, I couldn't state the story any better. And I certainly don't want to miss any details!
Have a happy day -
Lynn
